Writing With Wikipedia

Here we explore how we may write using Wikipedia not simply as a source and a reference, but as a creative asset in the authoring of new ideas.

Using the mediawiki transport we are able to write and repurpose wikipedia content in our creative work. While writing it is two click to import content and make it our own. What does this mean for education, and creative writing in general?

# Wikipedia Video

Wikipedia has introduced HTML5 Video to Wikipedia pages. I've just started to add the code to enable the automatic embedding of this video in Fedwiki.

See the HTML5 video of Ward on the Wiki page for what the HTML needs to look like. We have the thumbnail info from Wikipedia API - so we just need to connect the two.

Task: Add thumbnail (ie poster) import together with the HTML5 video import from Wikipedia pages.

In the classroom we can have a local wiki server, controlled by the teacher that acts as a proxy for all imported content.

The teacher can see what is sourced and copied, and comment and aid the process of the student bringing in ideas and external material into their work.

# What we need

We need an easy to use, set up, and administer, server for wiki. The teacher should be able to launch a local wiki server, and prepare material around which the students can author.
